The official website dedicated to the Sakamoto Days live-action project has revealed a first teaser confirming a theatrical release scheduled for April 29. Led by Ren Meguro in the role of Tarō Sakamoto, this adaptation also brings together Fumiya Takahashi and Aya Ueto to portray the family of the famous former hitman turned family man. Director Yūichi Fukuda, known for his previous work on Gintama, says that the film has already been edited and is convincing, despite its visual effects and soundtrack being temporarily absent.
The production is supported by CREDEUS and Avex Pictures, while Keiya Tabuchi is overseeing the action scenes. Yuuto Suzuki’s manga, launched in 2020 following a well-received one-shot, is currently continuing its “final battle” and remains one of the flagship titles on the MANGA Plus and Viz Media platforms. The universe has expanded with a spinoff, two novels, and even a mobile game, confirming the strength of the franchise over the years.
The anime adaptation has also contributed to the growth of Sakamoto Days, airing on TV Tokyo and releasing simultaneously on Netflix. Split into two parts, it offered a total of 23 episodes and increased enthusiasm for the former assassin turned portly shopkeeper. Between the manga, anime, game, and now live-action remake, the franchise continues to expand its influence among Japanese and international audiences.
