Adult Swim has just unveiled a captivating trailer for the anime adaptation of Uzumaki, the iconic work by Junji Ito.
Scheduled to premiere on September 28 on Adult Swim, the series will also be available to stream in the United States on the Max platform starting the following day. Long awaited by manga fans, this adaptation promises to immerse viewers in a dark and mysterious atmosphere faithful to Ito's universe. Co-produced by Production I.G USA and Adult Swim, the project is directed by Hiroshi Nagahama, with scripts written by Aki Itami and an original score composed by Colin Stetson.
The recent announcement also highlighted the series' voice cast, with voice actors lending their voices to the characters in both English and Japanese. The English cast includes Abby Trott and Robbie Daymond, who will respectively portray Kirie Goshima and Shuichi Saito. The Japanese cast is equally impressive, with Uki Satake and Shin-ichiro Miki in the same roles.
The plot of "Uzumaki" follows the tragic fate of Kirie Goshima, a high school student from the cursed town of Kurouzu-cho, marked by supernatural phenomena in which everything—from swirling winds to the flames of crematoriums—takes the form of unsettling spirals. Her classmate, Shuichi Saito, implores her to flee the town to escape the curse that appears to be physically transforming its residents into grotesque spirals. Originally scheduled to air in 2020, the series has been delayed several times, heightening the suspense surrounding its imminent launch.
