Ranma 1/2 first appeared in Shogakukan's Weekly Shōnen Sunday magazine in August 1987 and concluded in March 1996, spanning 38 volumes. The first anime adaptation began airing in April 1989, followed by the series Ranma ½: Nettō-hen later that same year, which continued until September 1992. The franchise also produced two films, a theatrical anime, several OVAs, and a special episode in 2008. In addition, a live-action television film aired in December 2011, demonstrating the series' enduring popularity. Viz Media played a crucial role in bringing Ranma 1/2 to a wider audience by releasing the anime on VHS, DVD, and Blu-ray, as well as publishing the manga.

With the announcement of a new Ranma 1/2 anime, fans of Takahashi's stories can look forward to another exciting revival of one of her classic series.
